How Recent Trends in IT Impact Data Center Cooling
IT Rack densities have increased significantly in recent years as pressure to pack more storage and compute capability into a smaller space has intensified. These higher densities mean there is more heat being generated in a smaller space, and often the architecture of the cooling infrastructure has not kept up with the increase in power density.
Network closets, computer rooms, and data centers are quickly evolving to higher densities. Has your cooling infrastructure kept pace? Network closets need heat rejection at a minimum and, ideally, have their own cooling. Row cooling units can be added to computer rooms or rearranged within data centers to avoid hot spots and maintain optimum airflow to critical equipment.
It may be time to re-evaluate your cooling infrastructure. Read about some strategies for adapting your cooling architecture to accommodate today’s higher density IT and telecommunications equipment. We can help make recommendations with our cooling assessment services.
The major cooling equipment manufacturers are continually developing new ways to improve the energy efficiency and lower the cost of data center cooling with newer technologies, such as free cooling and adiabatic cooling, that use the naturally cooler outdoor air available in many climates. It may be time for an upgrade. See our complete Data Center Cooling offering.
