CLOUD COMPUTING AND THE INTERNET OF THINGS MAKE
SECURE POWER MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER
The reliability of the cloud is almost irrelevant if
your network isn’t protected locally
Cloud computing
and virtualization are recent trends in IT that have had a real
impact on data center management. As companies look to cloud
computing to reduce their infrastructure and energy costs, power to
the network that connects users to remote servers is more critical
than ever before. Data centers that support cloud computing are
incredibly reliable, but losing your connection to that data center
can temporarily shut down your business. The reliability of your
cloud provider is almost irrelevant if your network is not protected
locally.
Another trend that has forced data center managers to rethink how
they protect data and servers is The Internet of Things. With the
number of smart phones, tablets, and other devices connected to the
internet exceeding the number of users, the Internet of Things
presents a new and unique challenge to data center managers who have
to be sure users can access the network and servers through multiple
devices 24/7/365.
These recent trends may have allowed data center managers to downsize
their infrastructure as they aim to right size their equipment and
reap the efficiency and cost-saving benefits that come with it.
However, it has increased the importance of 100% uptime for the
network. This has changed the role of small single phase UPS equipment in the data center
making it central to protecting Cisco switches and network equipment
and keeping your users connected to their data.
When was the last time you checked the status of your Single Phase
UPS equipment? Is it more than 5 years old? When was the last time
the batteries were been replaced? Are you vulnerable to losing your
network connectivity?
Recognizing the growing importance of single phase UPS equipment within a
data center, most of the major UPS manufacturers have allocated
tremendous resources to revamping their single phase UPS product
lines so this equipment can provide the reliability and availability
your network equipment now requires. I’ve included information
on some of the exciting product upgrades in this email.
Power
Solutions carries a complete line of single phase UPS equipment from APC by Schneider Electric, Eaton, and Liebert.
